hamilton chragers baseball 2023

In past years, your Hamilton Chargers Baseball team has been grinding to find wins with any chance they can. Leading the Chargers head coach Mike Shramek has put together a young squad of athletes that are currently growing into men to be able to put up a strong fight for the Chargers. The past season for the Chargers has had disappointing win totals of 6 wins out of their 24 games played. The Charger in 2021 finished 4th in the conference, 2022 finished 9th, and this past season finishing 4th.

The Chargers started to find their way this season. The new addition to the staff pitching coaching, Johnny Arnold. Coach Arnold led the Chargers to a team ERA (earned run average) of 2.7, which is the lowest it has been in 4 years. To lead the pitching staff Ben Moser and UW Platteville commit Josh Dahlgren, combined for 82.4 innings, earning 8 of the Charger's 13 wins. Furthermore, relief pitchers Nate Vaughan and Luke Lehnen dominated on the mound only giving up 4 total runs in the 26.2 innings pitched. Overall the pitching staff kept the chargers in games and most believe this was because of Coach Arnold.

On the other side, the offense for the Chargers was red hot leading into the playoffs. Coaches Sarembisky and Stelf hammered this quote into these boys' heads all winter long, “The only way to win a baseball game is to score runs, that means hitting the baseball.” With most of the varsity returning from 2022 where they won 6 games, the team knew they had to change their approach at the plate. Leading hitting for the Chargers were Noah Vernon, Braden Anders, and Ethan Hibicke. As all three of these boys had an average of .333 and totaled 42 RBIs (Runs Batted In).

As the year came to a close the Chargers fell short in the playoffs losing to Menomonee Falls in the 3 round. Although the boys wanted and knew they could have gone deeper into playoffs, the team beat almost everyone’s expectations. Many people from the WIAA believed the chargers after the first-round exit last year would have repeated again this year. The boys took that to heart in every game they played this year. We can’t wait to see what is in store for Charger Baseball next year!
